Keep Calm and Party On
Jun 27th 2024
‘Tis the summer season and Independence Day is upon us! Huge loud firework displays, bright lights, reconnecting with friends and family, great music, amazing barbecue and fabulous parties are just what we all look for to celebrate America’s birthday. We just can’t wait for the holiday!
However, from a dog or cat’s perspective much of what we look forward to in the holiday can translate to loud noises, unfamiliar people and foods, long nights and increasing summer heat. Eating and sleeping routines and normal play activities can alter during the summer holiday season because of all of the change.
As many pet owners who have been impacted know, dogs and cats leave their familiar surroundings on the Fourth of July because of all of the noise, disruption and heat leaving owners searching for their pets throughout the summer.
As we begin celebrating Independence Day, here are a few tips to consider
- Make sure your pet’s IDs are legible and have current contact information
- If your pet is chipped, ensure the contact information on the chip is current
- Properly secure your doors and windows if you leave or stay at home for the holiday
- Keep the barbecue and other unfamiliar foods out of a paw’s reach
- If your pets spend time outside, ensure comfort is near from the heat and/or loud noises. Good shady places and full water bowls can help
- When possible, introduce pets to visitors so they can get familiar and feel more at ease
- Leverage social media to help locate a lost dog or cat. You will be surprised at how many people know the name and looks of your dog or cat
You may also consider having the foods and treats your dog or cat likes to keep them at ease during a loud and late night. Consider foods and treats that include chamomile, tryptophan and Vitamin B1 to help relax your pets. It is good to read product labels to ensure these foods and treats work well for dogs and cats and consider their weights.
Try the Activa Calming Functional Chews made exclusively for dogs and can help relax them in a safe way. In your Activa Custom, consider including the Activa Calming Supplement. The Supplement includes tryptophan which can help increase serotonin levels to heighten your pet’s level of calm.
With proper planning and the right precautions, everyone can enjoy the Fourth of July holiday and the rest of the summer! Cheers!
