Every so often we like to take our eyes off our food bowl and check out what other pet food manufacturers are doing. As we enter the 2nd half of the year (Can you believe that? We can’t either!), we thought this would be the perfect time for some reflecting and thinking!

Yes, as the title of the Blog reads our team can get competitive (some more so than others) but this thinking can provide validation that we are making the best pet food we can for our customers and in some instances it can inspire new ideas of what could be possible for Activa Custom. We wanted to share some of our reflections with you, so here we go!

When looking for the freshest dried dog or cat food, we found some manufacturers promoting “gently dried” or “air dried” foods. The thinking is that if the food is gently dried, it should keep most of the starting nutrition and flavors. This was a point of validation. As you know, we also aspire to serve the freshest dog and cat food to your pets!

Many dry kibble customers often would not describe their food as “fresh”. Afterall, when making dry dog and cat food it is dried with heat and pressure which can result in depleting key nutrients. Yes, those nutrients that are often marketed on the bag of food may not be there! Along with heat and pressure, Father Time can also decrease the amounts of key nutrients and change the food’s taste as it eventually lands at your home.

Activa Custom is air dried, but just before we send it to you we add the Nutritional Supplements (the first two Supplements are free by the way), Oils and Flavors (Oils and Flavors are also free) to make sure we add all of the nutrition back into your bag before enjoying it. The food is shipped directly from the manufacturer so there is no time “eating” away at your food. It is in fact the freshest food we can offer!

In looking across the industry, we also found manufacturers presenting “quizzes” or “questionnaires” to help find the best pet food for your dog and cat. To their credit, there really are some amazing quizzes out there! One thing we noticed was that some of the quizzes led to a personalized plan and some of them led to a food that was more general for a breed or an age of pet.

We agree less with those foods made more generally and more with customizing a dog and cat foods on an individual basis. We all know that every dog and cat is different! Activa Custom can be made based on your pet’s size, lifestyle, diet, age or habitat. You can customize your food in literally thousands of different ways!

We loved to see the increasing number of vitamins and nutrition being made available for pets and their foods, so be on the lookout for an expanded offering from Activa Custom!
